In the under’s we have been exploring lots of different sensory experiences, including shaving foam and water play. The children have begun to show an interest in farm animals, so we have extended on from this. We have enjoyed singing ‘Old McDonald had a farm’ and have spoken about the different types of animals and the sounds they make to begin to encourage language skills. The Under Two’s have also enjoyed lots of time outside in the garden climbing on the pirate ship and exploring the sensory boards.
In the Over’s the children still show a big interest in dinosaurs. We have incorporated this into our cooking club ‘Little Chefs’ and have made dinosaur bone cheese straws. The children enjoyed making the dough by weighing out ingredients and using scissors we cut into the dough to form our bones. We have also been enjoying the mixture of weather and spending a lot of our time outdoors. We have enjoyed exploring the mud kitchen and mixing mud and water with bark to make our own creations. We have also explore the big puddles in the main garden by jumping up and down and also by counting how many buckets it takes to fill the outside water tray.
Fun Fact – Playing with open-ended materials like mud stimulate creativity and imagination – things that are hard to jump start later in life.
