This month the Under Two’s Units have enjoyed exploring many different types of sensory play. To tie in with our current theme of Spring, the children investigated flowers frozen into ice blocks. It was such fun playing with the ice, talking about how cold it was to touch and watching the ice melt to reveal the colourful flowers. We have also explored sensory bags and sensory trays to encourage the children to explore new materials and have a go at mark making in these too!
This month in big toddlers our new topic is transport, so we have been looking at lots of different ways to travel. The children have loved learning the names for the many different types of transport, as well as talking about transport they use with their families. We have been exploring transport themed playdough mats, as well as getting creative and having a go at making our own types of transport. In the garden we have made our own car and bike wash which has been splashingly good fun!
This month in preschool we are focusing on farming and growing. We have been looking at the different animals and their young. This was very exciting for the children and they loved being able to cut the different pictures out and matching them to the adult. Whilst we were completing this activity the children started to talk about the animals, where they live, what colour they are and how many legs they have. Preschool enjoyed using the scissors and glue and making their own piece of work.
This month we were very exciting visit from a chicken and a group of chicks. The children enjoyed watching the chicks explore the Preschool room, and talking the chicks’ different features. The children were particularly impressed with how big the large chicken’s wings were. The children were all given the opportunity to feed and hold the chicks, as well as having a look at the different eggs the chicken had hatched that morning.
