During the month of October in the Under Two’s units, we have been exploring the changes that the Autumn season has made to the environment. On a nature walk, we collected lots of natural items, including leaves, pine cones, feathers and sticks to use for our activities. Our pine cone painting activity was a huge success as the children enjoyed exploring with the pine cones, investigating the different types of marks we could make, and how different surfaces we used created different effects.
During October the Toddlers have been using lots of different materials to make textured pictures to look like trees. We experimented with lots of different items including brushes, sponges, and we even used some real leaves which we collected when we were exploring the, finding different signs of Autumn. We are all really looking forward to Halloween, and are already beginning our Halloween fun day preparations.
The children in Preschool have been investigating their own Autumn tray. To create our tray, the children went on an Autumn walk around the garden and collected leaves, sticks and pine cones. The children also added pumpkins into the tray. The children identified the different objects and looked at the size, shape, texture and colour of each object. Preschool have been focusing on what happens in Autumn and the children have developed great knowledge on this topic, particularly how the trees and plants change as we approach winter.
